About The City Brief Stourbridge

Your Personal Newsletter For All Local Events in Stourbridge

Stourbridge’s identity remains rooted in its industrial past, particularly through glassmaking that still shapes areas like the Glass Quarter. The City Brief tracks weekly events so residents don’t have to piece together scattered updates.

Every Thursday at Stourbridge Interchange on High Street, the Stourbridge Market runs in the town centre, one of England’s oldest continuously operating markets. Vendors from Amblecote and Lye sell pottery and handwoven textiles made using traditional techniques passed down through generations.

The monthly Stourbridge Farmers' and Craft Market takes place on the first and third Saturday at Clock Square near Hagley Park. Artisans from Wollaston, Oldswinford, Kingswinford, Pedmore, Wordsley, Kinver, Norton, Brierley Hill, and Lye display local honey, baked goods, and other crafts.

The annual Festival of Glass celebrates Stourbridge’s heritage through exhibitions and workshops near the Red House Cone, a landmark since the 18th century. Regular glassblowing demonstrations occur at Ruskin Mill and The Red House Glass Cone, where traditional methods are still taught in small studios across the Glass Quarter.

Live music concerts happen every summer in Mary Stevens Park, often starting around sunset. These gatherings attract visitors from Hagley Hall down through Stourbridge Town Centre toward Westside. Events align with seasonal transport patterns, reduced bus services during major festivals or increased rail use on event days.

The Stourbridge Beer Festival in August runs near Mary Stevens Park and extends into part of The Bullring. It draws diverse age groups, linking areas from Moseley Village to Black Country Living Museum via key routes including A458 road and number 318 bus.

Updates focus on timing and access, especially for those using Stourbridge Junction Railway Station or West Midlands Railway services. This includes neighborhoods like Edgbaston, Brierley Hill, Jewellery Quarter, and parts of Amblecote near Hagley Hall.

The City Brief keeps civic life visible through structured updates, reflecting both continuity and change across Stourbridge’s evolving identity.
